1. Introduction : The beginning of commerce education in Delhi took shape in the form of 'The Commercial Education Trust', established by seven leading businessmen in Delhi in early 1920. A post-matriculation Diploma programme in Commerce was introduced in Delhi by The Commercial School under the supervision of Mr. R.K. Kumar, who later was to become the first Principal of the Commercial College (later renamed as Shri Ram College of Commerce), after receiving affiliation to the University of Delhi in 1926.

4. Facilities : The College has two separate hostels for boys and girls with limited accommodation facilities for boys and girl within the campus. The amenities include a big mess (run on co-operative basis), common room, outsourced on-campus laundry services and also medical services from the University Health (Medical) Center. The college fraternity is proud of the on-campus residence of a number of students that brings an image of an extended family.

Edge : The facilities include a circular portico incorporating the lecture rooms on two floors, a central Clock Tower, tutorial and library blocks flanking the main building, separate students' hostel, swimming pool, canteen, common room, staff residences, the College was created to encompass the whole range of institutional requirements. Heritage Status to the College Building was accorded the government of NCT Delhi in 2006-07. A new 100 seated girls Hostel has also been recently sanctioned to SRCC by the UGC.
